Dr. Olga Kagan is a nurse scientist, healthcare innovation leader, and sought-after keynote speaker who helps health systems, academic institutions, and professional organizations navigate the future of nursing, artificial intelligence, and patient-centered innovation. She brings more than two decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience to the stage and to the organizations she advises.

 

Leadership & Recognition

Dr. Kagan is the founder and President of the nonprofit Food Allergy Nursing Association (FANA) and holds national leadership roles across the nursing and health-informatics community, including President-Elect of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs and Leaders (SONSIEL) and Chair of the New York Academy of Medicine Nursing Section. She was selected for the American Academy of Nursing's 2026 Class of Fellows and is a Fellow of HIMSS, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and the New York Academy of Medicine. Her contributions to nursing leadership, mentorship, and research have been recognized with numerous honors, including the HIMSS-ANI Nursing Informatics Leadership Changemaker Award and the HIMSS John A. Page Distinguished Fellow Award.

 

Keynote Speaking

Dr. Kagan is invited to keynote for major hospital systems, universities, and national conferences, where she translates complex topics into practical, energizing direction for clinical and executive audiences. Her signature talks span artificial intelligence in nursing and healthcare, nursing informatics, healthcare innovation, nursing leadership and workforce development, and food allergy and anaphylaxis care. Her keynotes have included engagements at UCLA, NYU Langone Health, Mount Sinai, the Hospital for Special Surgery, and national and international conferences such as HIMSS and the ICN Congress. As the senior author of the widely referenced 5 Rights of AI in Healthcare (HIMSS), she offers audiences a grounded, actionable framework for adopting AI responsibly.

 

Consulting

Through her consulting practice, Dr. Kagan partners with healthcare organizations, technology companies, and start-ups on nursing informatics, AI adoption, innovation strategy, as well as program and curriculum development and evaluation . She has advised start-up companies, served as a mentor and judge for innovation challenges including the MITvsCOVID19 events, and developed assessment and education tools used across clinical and academic settings. Her practical co-developed instruments, including the Innovation Inventory Heatmap for nurse-led technology prioritization and the Calculated INSIGHT framework for evaluating healthcare technology, give organizations structured ways to prioritize and assess innovation.

 

Subject-Matter Expertise

Dr. Kagan is a trusted subject-matter expert on nursing informatics, healthcare AI, and allergy and anaphylaxis care. She is co-editor and a contributing author of The Informatics Guide to Healthcare: From Insight to Action (Productivity Press, 2026) and has contributed chapters to numerous nursing and healthcare texts published by Wolters Kluwer, Lippincott, Springer, Jones & Bartlett, and McGraw Hill. She is a certified peer reviewer who reviews for several nursing and healthcare journals, including JACI: Global.

Background

A registered nurse licensed in New York since 2000, Dr. Kagan began her career in critical care in the US and abroad before serving as a Clinical Nurse Coordinator at the WTC Worker & Volunteer Medical Screening & Monitoring Program at Mt. Sinai Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health, which she helped build from its inception. She holds a PhD in Nursing and teaches at CUNY School of Professional Studies and Molloy University. Her research focuses on serving individuals living with allergic conditions through the lens of public health, health policy, healthcare innovation, and nursing informatics.
